I did see mention of cutting the polys in half a while back when first researching this .. So basically if I went this route. I would just need add a washer to the bottom side as well as the top?
with the car drop method that failed you.. did you try lubing them, and then use a jack to push the frame up.. popping them in? Or did you try some other variation on this?
