Can't recall exactly when the 9-5 went from regular gearbox fluid, to the synthetic, but if the '02 is like my '01 (old style fluid), you'll want to do a preliminary drain and refill, drive it for a while and then do a second drain and refill - and it wouldn't matter how many miles the car had done. I learned about this at about 100,000 miles, did the switch and I've since done another drain and refill around 200,000 miles, but the improvement after the initial drain and refill was the eye opener. The more recent one, first, the fluid was quite clean and second, the shifting is about as good as these get.
Just make sure you have a cut down 8 mm allen tool, to get the drain plug off and a T-55 (I think it is) to remove the top plug - it could be really stubborn.
Be careful with this synthetic fluid. Spill it on pavement, and the evidence will last for years and years.
