Is what you have in the pic. Just loop it so the open end points down and it should be good.
The fault code means you need to replace the thermostat, use the Saab one.
Coolant smell could be from a leaking heater bypass valve.
The supply line for the brake booster may be damaged, or the vacuum booster might be leaking.
Also a good idea to replace the transmission fluid with the correct 3309 spec fluid - 4 quarts after a drain.
