Hello guys. Just wanted to share some info about a recent problem with my 2000 9-5 4 cyl.

TLDR:
If you get code P1676, try re-seating the connectors on the fuel injectors and connected wiring harnesses.

Full story:
The car was running fine. In the middle of a trip, it started running rough and the CEL turned on. The engine wanted to die a few times, but I was able to get back home. When I got home I could smell gas.

On cold start, the engine would always start, but the problem was still there, sometimes immediately, or sometimes after running normally for a few min. The smell of gas was pretty strong when it was running rough, sometimes causing the car to smoke. Worried about destroying the cat.

The fault codes were:
P1676 = Injector Circuit Open / Short To Ground / Positive
P0303 = Cylinder 3 Misfire

I tried replacing the spark plugs and IDM / DIC. Did not help. No obvious wiring problems that I could see. Verified 12v at the injector connectors with key on but not running. My guess was that one of the injectors had failed open and was dumping gas into the engine.

Replacing injectors looks like a pretty tedious job. I was not at all looking forward to that.

On a whim, I decided try re-seating the connectors. I disconnected/reconnected the wires at the injectors, also did 3 connectors on the driver side of the engine that seemed to be feeding into the injector harnesses. Surprisingly this may have done the trick! It has run normally for about 30 min so far. I don't trust it yet, but fingers crossed that it stays fixed. Will follow up after some more drive time.
