Your issue may not be the same, but I went through this in 2016 (MY2000 V6). After pulling every fuse in turn and replacing without finding the drain, I tried to remove the exciter lead on the alternator, but it just turned; so I cut the wire and the drain disappeared (had to crimp on a new terminal later on). It was failed diodes causing the drain. I got a rebuilt Bosch alternator and replaced it.

WIS says you have to pull the right front axle to replace the alternator of the V6, but I found a write-up for doing it in around 2 hours from the top. It took me about 3 hours over a two week period. The alternator has to be in just the right position to come out from the top, but it is possible. If you find it's the alternator, PM me if you want the PDF copy of the procedure.
