Just saw this ...

I didnt mean to suggest that the paddle shifters would fix the issue, I want to know if you can feel and see the car change gears when the problem happens. So
- when the problem occurs, shift to M and look at the dash, make a note of the gear it's in does that number change with the paddles?
- does shifting down with the paddles make the car less sluggish?
Have you looked at the transmission fluid. It would be good to see if it's bright red as it should be. It should smell vaguely of crayons, and not smell burnt.
ok, I'll get off the transmission for now, here are a few things that could make a 2007 9-5 sluggish:
1 - intake leak. check the entire intake system, from the air filter, past the MAF, through the intercooler and into the throttle body. inspect all of the components for cracks and check all of the connection points for looseness. .
2 - plugged catalytic converter. I dont have a good way to check this ... I wonder if others can chime in. It is too expensive to "just try a new one"
3 - o2 sensors. It would be rare for this to be problematic and not set a code, but it has happened. you'd need a scanner to observe the O2 sensor response to diagnose it. Most shops will not do that and just replace it.
4 - Throttle body in limp home mode. this is not intermittent and would turn on the check engine light so it's not likely in your case.
5 - transmission in limp home mode.
6 - wastegate stuck open. Perhaps the turbo is not "in play" because the wastegate is stuck open and all of the turbo pressure is diverted to atmosphere.
do you drive the car everyday?
when the problem occurs is it un-drivable? or just annoying like its operating with the performance of a honda civic instead of a saab?
when the problem occurs does it happen immediately upon startup or are you driving and all is good, and suddenly it becomes sluggish?
BTW you might consider starting a new thread since the original one is so far down get lost and does not get as much attention from the community.
