Have you considered the connection to the antenna in the back of the radio?
the antenna connection is made when you push the radio home ... so I'd suggest that you check:
- both sides of the connection for dirt or corrosion
- ensure that there is little if any play of the car side connector in the cage (it can get loose)
- ensure that the radio is fully seated
you could remove the cage and plug in the antenna and do a wiggle test to see if you alternate between good reception and static. this would at lest confirm that the booster is OK and the problem lies in the connection itself.
