I know you are replacing the larger plastic piece (so shouldn’t need the old one) but remember that this area is heavily impacted by sun and will be very very brittle. The sun sensor cover in the center is held in with four small ‘hook-shaped’ clips and is under spring tension (spring around the sensor pushing up under the covert). You have to very carefully press the cover down and gently slide it forward so the clips release and it pops up. If any of those clips break it won’t reseat properly.

So yes, not many steps but the steps need to be executed gently and carefully.
