Lots of writeups a few years back on this topic..

basically back in the day.. Boston Acoustics and Infinity were the popular choice for 3.5 inch speakers, which could be dropped into the left and right dash locations.. with very little, or no modifications.. (I recall having to trim some of the material where the speaker sat so it would sit evenly (no effort at all).

the center speaker is another story, and more of a problem child as its only 2.5 inches.. so options are limited... It's basically filling a hole in the front soundstage, and I believe it just reproduces the combined left and right signal. If your existing one is shot, and you can't find something that fits.. you can just leave it disconnected and see how that sounds.
