In any case.. as JerseySaab suggested.. it's likely a lifter noise.. Make sure your oil level is proper.. and maybe due for a change, depending on the mileage? I've had good luck Liqui Molly Lifter Additive with another car that had a similar problem..

There is also a rubber chain guide attached to the valve cover.. that gets hard/brittle over time, and could contribute to the noise.. Also check your timing chain tensioner.. There are a bunch of write-ups on this site, and others..
