In regards to your drivability issue (starts reluctantly, runs rough, requires accelerator pedal input to keep running) I have two thoughts:

1 - you are currently in limp home mode, and the Throttle Body needs to be reset.
2 - you have a massive intake leak: a common one is the intake snorkel has worked it's way off of the TB. Or perhaps a crack in the snorkel or intercooler.

In regards to the comms issue between your Tech 2 and the engine bus, check the connector and pins as a start.
