I went through this with my 2003 last fall and did a bunch of research. Short answer:
- yes, in my case - same symptoms, the TCM was bad (I had my Indy do the testing per WIS for the P0748 code).
- I found by looking at eSaabParts and saabpartscounter, which have good parts diagrams and indices that 55352924 is the current part number for 2002 and 2003 TCMs. Newer models have a different PN. There are 55352924 units available from Goldwing for $325.
- in my case, I was able to source brand new for Saab parts counter for not much moire than the used, and I planned to have my Indy do a fresh install and programming in any case. I did a fluid exchange as well just for good measure
That was last October, and the car is running and shifting better than ever. (2003, 9-5 V6, 341K miles)
You could certainly order the used and try it plug and play - worst case you’ll have to have it programmed. Also note that I had this symptom sporadically for about 18 months prior and clearing the code often got me going again (until it didn't). When code was set the car was just barely drivable, transmission was in limp home mode so started out in 3rd gear.
Good luck
