Jack accident Posted by Doug W [Email] |
I went to change my oil and jack the car up by the front cross member as usual. I had the car coated with Corrosion Free rust blocker and forgot about it. It never hardens and is VERY slippery. The car slipped off the jack at full extension. The oil cooler and ac condenser are smashed. The radiator is nicked but does not leak after running for 30 minutes. I drove the car and it operates normally. I'll leave the AC off. I've ordered replacement parts. The next time I jack the car up like I've done for 15 years, I'll clean off the cross member with brake cleaner first!!
My question is this: When does the oil cooler start circulating oil through it? Is there a thermostat that controls it? The cooler did not heat up and there is no oil leaking from it. The car had idled for 25 minutes and I drove it for about 5 minutes. The coolant gauge showed normal and the oil was likely at temperature. Yes I know the oil takes a lot longer to heat up than the coolant.
The snorkel that pulls air from behind the grille to the air cleaner is dented. Does anyone have a spare they can sell me? They are NLA. I'll try Goldwing.
