Hello......

Here in Florida, even the Police cars have the extra tinting on their windows. The sun is intense and the humidity so strong that it is very difficult for air conditioning to keep up. I have lived in Florida for 25 years and would not own a car here without tinting. (The air conditioning in our 1999 9-5 is marginal even with the tinting though.)

There are advantages and disadvantages to tinting:

The tinting cuts down on the UV rays and prevents the seats and interior from being bleached by the sun or other sun related damage.
You will feel cooler in the car with the windows tinted.
Tinting is safer in an accident as it prevents glass from shattering.
Tinting prevents intruders from breaking the glass easily.
Tinting makes the car really look good.....see the ads for most cars, the windows are tinted!

Tinting is a film that is placed on the inside glass. Since it is "softer" than glass, if you use a sharp object against it, the tinting can be marked or scratched (or course it is easy to replace though).
Tinted windows tend to pick up reflections at night, especially when it is raining. This takes a while to get used to......but tinting also cuts down on glare from other vehicle headlights, which is a plus.
Even if it was legal, which it is not, you would not want tinting on the front windshield because of the glare at night and the potential reduction in vision.
Tinting is very difficult to do correctly, so if you do decide, have it done professionally, and with a warranty. (Bubbles, rips, dirt under the tint, etc.) A good tint shop will know all the laws in your state, and guarantee that their work complies with the law. Here in Florida it costs about 150-175 to have a car the size of the 9-5 tinted.

Hope this info helps.
