like the 17's (long) Posted by Peter [Email] (#2804) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Peter) on Thu, 5 Sep 2002 20:51:14 In Reply to: You can get any wheel fixed for $109. Check at, Texron, Thu, 5 Sep 2002 10:12:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I like the way the 17" wheels drive but they wear quickly. I have Ronal LV's (17x8). Ran Pirelli PZero Rosso first on them and now have Bridgestone S-03s. Great traction. Great handling.
The roads I drive are very rough and in need of repair (Atlanta area). I have a minor outer rim bend on one, blew a tire on a pothole, and appear to have bent a second one with potholes as well. As I noted before, the bends are not major, but at 52-56 mph I feel a vibration now. I'm not an abusive driver and keep the tire pressures at 38F/37R plus rotate every 3-4K. So they have been more costly to keep up and I'm giving some thought to going back to the plus-zero setup with the stock wheels rather than put another $200 into them the next time I get new tires. A minor rub is that they also get about 2 mpg less than what I got with the RE730s as a plus-zero size. Around here average speed is 32 and mpg was 25.x with plus-zero and 23 with plus-one sizing.
Take home message, I like the 17's. It just may be time to save some money.
