to Denver and back. Left Santa fe friday at 8 am and drove thru snow & slush for the first half of the trip. Our wagon is a 2.3 auto with 205-55-16 hakka Q snow tires. The outside temp was never above 15 degrees f and we used a full tank of washer fluid on friday. We arrived at our hotel in Denver at 2:15 pm and got 26 mpg. The stability and performance of this car in winter mode with the snow tires was very reassuring as we saw seven or eight other cars off the road due to ice, snow , etc. With the winter mode engaged you are able to use the full engine power without losing traction when the transmission shifts up or down.
The return trip saw the temps ranging from 30 to 55 degrees f. We left Denver at 11:30 am and arrived in Santa fe at 4 pm. Our average speed was 89 mph and we got 23 mpg. We use 91 octane gas, and the gas we got in Denver was "oxygenated fuel " which does not deliver as good of mpg. I have owned lots of different Saabs since 1982, and the 9-5 is my favorite. It now has 15,000 miles and we have had absolutely no problems or failures of any kind with this car in the 13 months we have driven it.
