but the key is to find a good one.

If what you have is a scratch and only the clear coat has been damaged and not the paint beneath the clear coat, then the scratch can be buffed out easily. If the scratch is all the way down to the metal but no damage to the panel except for the paint then you need a bit more help. There is no need to repaint, a good shop can fill up the scratch with touch up paint then sand and polish. You won't even know it is there even if you look hard.

If some of your neighbors own exotic or semi-exotic cars, you may want to know where they get their cars detailed. I'm not talking about the Jones who lease there BMW or Mecedes every 3 years, I am talking about those car fanatics that drive these cars only in nice sunny weather. Also, if you come across places that sell Porches, call them and ask them who details their cars. Look in the NY Times car classified section and call these places. I think most places would tell you who their detailers are. Some detailers may actually come to your place and do the job on site. Some will pick your car up and drop it off. Even some NYC *parking* garages have these services but I can't attest to the work quality.

In the land of the plenty, i.e. Westchester, Scarsdale, White Plains, I'm sure you will have no problem finding a good shop.

If you are truly particular about keeping up the new car look, you may consider signing up for a detailing program with a shop you are happy with. Yes, it is just like a spa for cars, i.e. car spas :-).
