The plastic caps are the most practical way to preserve the looks if this bothers you that much. Standard lugs are probably cadmium plated but every time you put a wrench on these lug nuts, you are abraiding the outer surface of the metal, exposing it to rust. Solution number 2, if they were available--Stainless Steel. DO you really care about this that much that you would be willing to pay the price for stainless steel lug nuts?.Various components on the brake assembly also show through the road wheels. Want to pay for the cost of special materials in this area just so a little rust doeas not show up? I think that the plastic caps are a much cheaper solution for those who are concerned about this.
