Our latest issue has a report on Nokian "NRH" and an introduction of their new "WR" high speed winter tires. Nokian are the winter tires we recommend.

You're right on track looking at "H" or "V" rated winter tires. Speed ratings are one thing, the tire's underlying performance properties are another. Unless you are going to be plowing snow with the front spoiler, you want "high speed winter tires" such as H or even V rated tires, rather than deep lugged "snow tires" that are typically "Q" rated. In your case, I would certainly choose the "V" rated tires if available in that size to keep more of your Aero's original handling properties.

Here in the US, potholes are another problem, and a reason to use 16" rather than 17" winter tires. If that's not a problem in Switzerland, you could even use 225-45-17 winter tires and preserve even more of your Aero's "summertime" driving properties. These should be "XL" rated like your summer tires are.

An advantage in the US to buying from a tire dealer, rather than your Saab dealer, is you can often purchase a "road hazard" insurance package for a nominal sum. This covers "flat repair" as well as replacement for unrepairable damage, and generally includes "lifetime balance" service and tire rotations.
