You pretty much nailed down exactly what I was considering about a year ago. I've previously owned a 98 328i and 96 900S. I was also considering a used 98 M3 Sedan and a 98-99 528i. For me, the financing details made the decision. Under a "lease for 3 years, then buy" scenario with the Aero, I determined that I'd need to find traditional financing of about 4% for the bimmer. Needless to say, I couldn't. Your situation may be different of course but it's one last thing to think about.
In either case, in my opinion, you're picking from two of the best cars out there. Sometimes (heresy I know), I wis I'd got the bimmer. Of course, were I to have done that, I'm sure I would wish I had the Aero occasionally.
Good luck!
