It is the high temperature viscosity requirenment that is important. In Europe where folks are driving at 130mph, the temperatures get higher than in the North American market. At high temperatures, the viscocity can be insufficient to handle the loads that such conditions create. And they had engine damage to go along with that lesson.

Note that a good oil of a higher viscosity does not mean that your fuel economy will suffer. Sometimes the opposite. There is more that viscous losses at play.

So we know that oil the dealers in the USA will provide. What oil do Saab dealers in Europe use?
