For those who are interested:
The speakers in the back doors of the 1999 base 9-5 are 5-1/4 inch. To replace them all you need to do is remove the three torx screws located behind the door handle (2) and the chrome latch (1). All three screws are hidden by decorative caps that pop out with a little screw driver.
Next pull the door panel away from the door from the bottom and sides along the black edge trim. It will end up hanging from the top. Then you can remove the three bolts holding the speaker housing, unplugg the speakers, and presto -- you are ready to remove factory things, and put new speakers in the housing.
Likely you need to cut harness off the door speaker wire and simply wire bare wires with your new speakers and insulate with electrical tape.
Place the housing in the door -- pop the edge of trim back -- replace the three torx and their decorative covers -- and ENJOY your base factory stereo!!
