They will probably fit, but you may have some issues.

1) Your speedometer will be off due to the different Diameter. (Actually due to the different Loaded Radius, but we'll keep it simple)

2) The tires are larger and will be more likely to have interference issues. OEMs can not allow much interference (rubbing) between the tire and the car because it causes complaints, loads management issues, and potential safety issues if the rubbing occurs on a sharp edge.

If Saab felt they could fit the 235 45 17's they probably would have been on the car from the factory. They are larger from side to side and in diameter than the 225 45 17s.

I am not saying that there will be blaring interferences but there will probably be some near the ends of travel. Full jounce/full rebound in the back and full jounce full steer/full rebound full steer in the front. An interference is not the end of the world, but if it is with a sharp edge it could cause tire damage and eventual failure.

I checked the 2002 Tire and Rim Association handbook and the recommended rim size for a 235 45 17 is an 8" rim. The tire is approved for use on 7.5J, 8J, 8.5J, 9J. The profile of the tire will vary some depending on what rim is used.
