I just received the latest Consumers report mag (Nov2002) and it has a section on Winter Tyres, it rated the following tyres;
H-Rated
1. Goodyear Ultra Grip GW-2
2. Dunlop Sp Winter Sport M2
3. Pirelli Winter 210 SnowSport
4. Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22
5. Nokian Hakka NRW
I can comment on 1,4 and 5;
I had the Blizzaks on my 1995 900se for 2 full winter seasons and then they were knackered, so I replaced them with the Goodyears (UltraGrip 5's)
they were very good all round but not as good on ice as the Blizzaks (new)
I have had Nokian's on 3 seperate cars years ago (all RWD) they were excellent, but very hard to come by late in the season.
On my 1999 and 2001 9-5's I ran Blizzaks until last year when I made the mistake of leaving it too late (early Dec) to get a new set of tyres so I ended up with Toyo Garrit Ht tyres (not the best I've had).
Hope that helps, Cheers.....Manumad
