Hey there Mr. Overboost!

Decided to keep the 205s. Taking a rough measurement of the outer diameter, I found it to be pretty much identical to the OE 225/45R17 tires.

According to the tire calculator on a Miata site, the 205/55R16 should be 0.1 inch smaller in diameter than the OE tires. I figure the taller tread blocks of a winter tire would nearly or completely make up for that 0.1 inch anyway.

As for tire load, the 205s are only one load class lower than the 215s, so probably no biggie, and besides, the owner's manual says either size is fine for the Aero. It's the V6 (probably too nose-heavy?) that requires 215/55R16 for winter.

FWIW, according to the tire calculator, the 215 is 0.3 inch taller in diameter than the OE 225. I guess it would have been nice to have the slightly increased ground clearance, but I'm told a narrower tire will cut through the snow a bit better.

Bring on the snow!!

Jason
