No magic, but here's what works for me: Posted by vsfoxe [Email] (#1025) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vsfoxe) on Fri, 13 Dec 2002 11:53:41 In Reply to: Paint Scratch, Darren, Thu, 12 Dec 2002 19:57:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First, let me say I know nothing about "body & paint repair". My idea is what has developed over many years, from making messes to "comes out pretty nicely!". I wear eyeglasses, and a magnifier which mounts on my head to see the best (not needed if you have great eye-sight). The compounds I mention are what I use - others MAY work?
(1) Go to Saab dealer, buy the correct touch-up paint.
(2) Identify what you wish to work on, get good light.
(3) Shake paint well. Apply a reasonable amount (not too much-you can always ADD more). Let it set for about 15 minutes.
(4) Wipe away excess paint with paint thinner (I have also used Brake Clean sparingly).
(5) Then I use (according to directions) No. 7 "White Polishing Compound" - lightly to get the area generally smoothed up.
(6) Then I use (according to directions) Mother's Scratch Remover and get a finished look.
(7) Then I use 3-M Hand Glaze (according to directions) and it should be looking good now!.
(8) Last, I use Liquid Glass (according to directions), with 2 coats, and - DONE!
I've used this technique on Saab 9-5 SE (red), Toyota Solara SLE-V6 (black), and I'm sure I'll use it again when I find another SPG (red).
It does take time, there is NO MAGIC, and practice does help. In the past I had 1 body shop do a great job on a scratch. Then I had another body shop do no better than the average amateur. Recently I had a 3rd body shop do some great touch-up. You never know.
