This is a long standing problem w/other saab models, and will start showing up more on this board as the 9-5's get older. Should have been corrected by now IMHO. Mine let go @ 97K a couple of weeks ago, w/no warning, just before it was going to get done as preventative maintenance. Being stranded sucks, first time in 14 years.
Be aware that there are 3 pulleys, and I think 2 of the 3 are common failures. While they are in there doing the fix, I'd get them both swapped (I think they are upper groove tensioner pulley #4356127 and the center idler belt pulley #4752960G. but not positive)
It REALLY pays to source your parts if you're not stuck! Pricing on these pulleys is about $40 each dealer down to about $20 each at some of the online sources on saabnet.
The OEM belt is about $75, and aftermarket is available in the $20-30 range. I'd SPECIFICALLY ask for the non saab serpentine part if it were me. (I got stuck w/the big $$ on all of the items which upped the bill $150-$200)
I'm not sure what labor was for this part of the fix, cause it wasn't itemized that way, and I had a fair number of additional things taken care of at the same time.
But it WAS painful $$ and added insult to the injury of the breakdown ;-) MORAL: If you have a 9-5, DO the changeout as preventative maintenance, on your terms, as opposed to the way I did it.
