Get the SAAB, dude! (You'll have to excuse me, I just got a new Dell, dude.. lol)
Audis *do* have great dashboards, but I believe the 9-5 is a much more solid car--the '01 A4 I drove recently didn't pass my "door slam" test, the doors felt really light. Not absolutely sure, but I believe the 9-5 does better in the various crash tests (NCAP, IIHS, etc).
The 9-5 is a tank!! Solid.
The V-6 in the 9-5 does use a timing belt, but I believe SAAB pays for the first replacement. Its DI seems more reliable, just going by the posts on here.
On the other hand, the four uses a timing chain and it has passed the test of time. Lots of SAABs with basically the same engine, going 300k, 400k, 500,000 miles and beyond...
Drive both the 4 and the V6 and pick the one you like better; you won't go wrong with either one.
