I recently got "smoked" by a Jetta TDI on a highway in Quebec. One would think that my Viggen could have stomped the little guy, but in reality, his regard for preserving his license was evidently far less than mine. At about 95 mph, common sense got the better of me and I backed off.
My point being, highway dragging is inane at the best of times as it really is more a contest of nerves (w/ resp. to losing your license and not actually going fast)
You want excitement? Fly to Milan, rent the smallest econo box available, and try and keep up with the big boys on the autostrada. Now that's excitement.
Stomping a Passat with a car with more juice is lame.
By the way, I happen to think the Passat is a better value than the stripper Saabs. It is better composed, more buttoned down, and civilized, and fast enough for reasonable driving. In fact, you want a great value? Get the 1.8T and chip it. Faster than the 2.8, and stealth at the same time. Flame on!
