We had a cold snap last night.
I got 30 mpgs with a light side wind, 5F, mostly 75 mpg. It was 6F outside the house and the garage passively was 31F above ambient with one shared wall to the house. So it was not a cold start by any means. But reseting the SID on the highway run isolates the measurement from warmup issues.
Part of the equation I beleive the the time to warm up the trany. In the cold and with the cooling at road speeds, the trany probably takes quite a while to get up to temperature and will not reach the same heat of course.
I was quite surprised that the mpgs held up that well.
I am on 16" snow tires at 36/36 PSI, however, the pressures today will be lower and I am not going to get the pressure guage to find out! With the 17" performance tires, I am sure that the stiff and shorter sidewalls would reduce my mpg's in such cold temperatures.
5300 miles, factory oil fill.
