I have two solutions, having owned several black cars in the past.
First, if you have a machine, I recommend Ardex Seal-B. Its a machine brightener for black cars. Leaves a vibrant finish.
Or 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, if done by hand.
Be sure either one is topped of with a quality wax - I like meguiars #26 Paste wax (paste lasts a lotlonger than liquid on the car), or Blitz 100 Grand.
If he paint has *any* roughness to it, you will need to use a clay bar on the car before polishing. Kits are available most places. All of the brands are good.
Most important: follow the directions on every product to a "T". the companies formulate and test products; thay want you to be happy the results. I have a guy across the street who swore, when he applied wax to his Celica, it had to be removed when still wet. Problem was, he was removing it when almost dry, and it left streaks everywhere. So he never really waxed the car.
If you are using a detail shop, request they use individual polish and wax, and that the wax be a paste. (yes, you can apply paste with a machine.) They may charge you more, but its generally worth it.
