reservoir when it's low (or a little bit low).
When brake pads and rotors wear down, the level in reservoir also goes down. If someone fill up the reservoir to full, and you install new pads and rotors after that it will leak out.
All the fluid that is pushed back into the reservoir when brake pistons are pressed back into caliper can and will squirt out through the vent hole in cap.
That's probably what happened in your case.
Make sure to hose down the engine compartment with water to remove the excessive brake fluid. Otherwise it will ruin the paint.
