A C900. Absolutely would not come off nohow. No way. Not with Vice Grips. Not with pipe wrench. I tried all the words, the onces that usually work on inanimate objects, but it wouldn't listen.
I took it to have the plug sawed off and drilled out - my faulty logic, and the guy said "why not weld a big nut on the end?" Why not indeed! You know how big a nut slips over a 13 mm (half inch) rounded off hex head? I don't remember, but it was plenty big, and it came loose without any fuss at all. Naturally I kept using that beast, but I was very careful ever after not to press hard when tightening the oil drain.
As they said below, the head is small and the metal is soft, so you are less likely to bust the case. I'd recommend using a small torque wrench - the spec on that puppy is pretty low, 25 ft lb. iirc.
