All it is is that if you go back and forth from steel to Al you have to clean the mating surfaces between wheel and hub. I would guess that the aluminum, which is soft, rubs off on the hub, and then the steel from the other wheel reacts with it (maybe an engineer on this site will really explain it). Probably the same reason you can't mix aluminum and copper wiring. On the Genuine Saab (Taliaferro) site, there is a section on wheels and tires and it's there.
