Sorry to hear about your problem. If ALL of your lights went off when this happened (including your headlights), I would say that the key did not just get bumped to the "off" position. On our car, the headlights stay on until the key is advanced to "lock", where it can be removed from the ignition. It would take MUCH more than just a bump to move the key from "on" to "lock" position.
I would get the car to the dealer asap and pester them to no end until they did something-- car dies on the GW bridge! I couldn't think of a scarier place for that to happen. Let us know how this turns out.
