Hi,
I know that Lou will not like this, but what the heck.
The following is my biased ranking of Mobil 1 grades from having
spent _way_ too much time over at Bobistheoilguy web-site.
0W-40
10W-30
Delvac 1 5W-40
15W-50
5W-30
0W-30
We will not even mention xW-20 weights (a.k.a CAFE oils).
0W-40 gets highest marks for ACEA A3/B4 and MB 229.5 compliance.
10W-30 has had _the_ best used oil analysis results of _any_ oil. It
really stays in grade. So, over a long drain interval, it approaches
performance of 0W-40.
Delvac 1 is dual rated for gas and diesel engines. It has higher
HT/HS viscosity than 0W-40 and has the additive package characteristic
of high quality diesel oils. Also, because of the smaller spread than
0W-40, it will stay in grade better than 0W-40. Because of lack of
ACEA gasoline engine classification, you probably should not use this
oil until out of warranty, however.
Next is 15W-50 which is one of my favorite oils. Nothing beats a nice
warm bath with 15W-50, some scented oil and Kentucky Jelly ... mmmmm
Anyhoo ... 15W-50 is the only other Mobil 1 oil which meets ACEA A3/B4.
It has higher HT/HS viscosity than just about any other oil, including
0W-40 and Delvac 1. This oil is ideal for summer use, and it is
recommended for those with a lead foot (like Vlad :-)
Next come 5W-30 and 0W-30. These two have had questionable Used oil
analysis reports but still are high quality ACEA A5/B5 oils. Saab Long
Life Fully Synthetic 0W-30 is likely reformulated Mobil 1 0W-30.
These oils shear because of their wide spreads. They should not be used
for oil change interval any longer than 10,000 miles.
Saab semi-synthetic is good for 5,000 miles and has the detergent
package to clean up the sludge which results from shearing of viscosity
modifiers, but you're probably pushing your luck if you try to extend
oil change interval on semi-synthetic to 10,000 miles.
thanks
Jae
