Is your car lowered? I went to the Passat/A4 tire and wheel page and looked up the sizes. 225/50 R16 is 631.4 mm diameter. 225/45R17 is 634.3 diameter. So yes, taller. But the OEM 215/55R16 on 9-5's is taller yet at
642.9 mm. I wouldn't think 3 mm would matter unless your BG springs lowered the car?
