Hi,
This needs to be in the records because it is
information others can use.
The following is oil analysis with comparison to Delvac 1.
Element Saab 0W-30 Delvac 1
--------------------------------------
Molybdenum 1 0
Boron 254 154
Silicon 3 6
Sodium 3 1
Calcium 3447 2107
Magnesium 241 421
Phosphorus 1029 1090
Zinc 1180 1216
Barium 0 0
The following are Blackstone's comments:
JAE: No problems showed up in this sample. This
additive package would be suitable for diesel
engine use and is more than adequate for a
gasoline engine. The viscosity was normal for
an 0W/30. The TBN was very strong at 17.5.
This is mostly due to the high calcium, which
is from the additive calcium sulfinate (a
detergent/dispersant additive). The trace of
insolubles is fairly common in virgin oils.
No moisturee was present.
---------------------------------------------------
This oil is quite odd. It has TBN higher than
just about any other oil, but it's viscosity is
too low to provide proper hydrodynamic lubrication.
So as Dean pointed out, wear metals will accumulate
to the extent that they are damaging _way_ before
TBN is used up.
It is as if Saab took a proper diesel oil and
made it lighter.
thanks
Jae
