While you're statement is accurate regarding the number of providers switching over, it's only fair to point out additional facts that weaken you argument.
The first is the basic LACK of availability of digital service in rural areas. As you state, times will change and we'll see those systems upgraded. But by then, the 2007 Saab 9-5 will be on sell with probably the fifth version of digital OnStar.
Secondly, that hand-held phone isn't going to do SQUAT for you have a TRUE emergrency. If you wreck in front of the grocery store, there are dozens of people there to call for help. When you wrecck out in the boondocks, you're gonna need the 3watts of power from your Analog OnStar system.
I won't argue that the system needs to progress, mostly because I know it digital OnStar systems are currently under validation. But I do feel it's important to provide the WHOLE picture when making a point.
