I responded to my mid-life crisis by buying
a. A pair of turquoise pony-skin loafers
b. An Aero Wagon
I don't dare wear the shoes outdoors, but I am embarrassingly fond of the car (never having thought of myself as a car person). It seems very happy being driven slowly by Mrs. Ed, my son loves the look, feel and space, and I am learning the joys of living dangerously with my driving license.
The initial decision making process was based on nothing more sophisticated than how well the doors shut (savour that clunk), after which test the bigger Audi and the Saab were the only ones left in it. The Audi was as much fun to drive as a herd of cats, so last car standing was the Saab: I made the usual mistake of test driving the Aero, after which there was no choice at all.
The only regret was buying the automatic version of it (in deference to Mrs. Ed and her habit of standing on clutches), which while driving in town at least, dissipates some of the fun factor.
I don't understand why everyone talks about BBS wheels: the standard issue ones (known as Klingons I think), are much more outrageous.
Enjoy!
