Owners manual comments typically begin with something akin to "basic recommendation" and follow along with "severe".......
SAAB warrants the car for the 4x50,000 to any owner who maintains the minimum oil spec of semi synthetic 5W-30... Now living in Michigan, where maybe we get 8-14 days over 90F all year long, the 5W-30 may be the better viscosity.
This guy lives in a region where you wake up in the morning 200 out of 365 possible days with the typical highs are 80/90/100 degrees. Now, add sitting in Phoenix traffic at over 100 F ambient air temps......
I offered what I would do. I feel it EXCEEDS the warranty book's minimum guidelines.
If I lived in a constantly hot area like this poster did, I'd go to MOBIL 1 15W-50 ASAP, and 0W-40 as an alternate as it meets/exceeds the severe service, and if I did any kind of towing or load applications, I'd certainly use it.
I'd also go to the NGK BCPR 7 ES plugs for hot climates.
