i had once been perplexed about the behavior of the sport mode too. that is untill i spent half an hour discussing it with a saab factory rep at the local autoshow. because of the drive by wire throttle, the sensitivity, or ratio, of the throttle plate can be altered by the computer
. in sport, this is made more sensitive. this means that your throttle plate is fully open at about 90% accelerator position. thus pushing that extra 10% is meaningless. this is sort of misleading in my opinion. the major benifits of the sport mode lie within the transmission. the transmission line pressure is incresed while in sportmode to make quicker more crisp shifting and the shift pattern is altered to hold a gear longer at lighter throttle. however the maximum rpm is still the same as in non sport. as far as the boost limit being higher i am not sure, but i have suspected it in the past and after much 'testing*' have decided it not true. any more info on that would be great though.
*series of launches from standstill in bolth modes on the same pavement resulting in exactly similar ammounts of front wheel spin in bolth modes.
