I use mid-grade during the winter months to save a few pennies. The reduction in performance is not objectionable to me when the pavement is ice and snow covered anyway.

From approximately Memorial Day to Labor Day I use premium only. The car has significantly better performance during warm temperatures (above 85 F)with the higher octane. Because of the ECU's (engine computer) learned response, you shuld burn the higher octane all season, not just the hot days. Per Saab, it may take 100 miles of driving for the computer to fully recognize the higher octane fuel available.

Fuel mileage with higher versus lower octane fuels has been hotly debated here in the past. I feel I obtain slightly better mileage with the higher octane, but it is not a scientific test result.

One final word of advice. Avoid stations that sell Gasohol, unless they have a substantial price advantage. You will see an immediate 10% reduction in fuel mileage by burning this fuel in your car!
