Yes, the guard mounts to the back of the seats, more precisely to a bracket located near where the seatbacks latch. I think its the back of the latch mechanism for the seatbacks. So, it doesn't actually touch the seats. The guard mounts in the top of the car where you see two plastic covers. Take those off, and a small rod slides into the slots beneath those covers. There are two screws (made for fingers) that tighten the position there. Then the bottom uses two screws (also made for fingers ie no screwdriver required) that squeeze onto the latches for the seatback. Installation is very easy, just make sure to follow the directions, even if they seem wrong (ie the bottom wheel things dont rest *on* the latch (like I thought they should), they go *underneath* the latches. If you get the guard you'll see what I mean. After I accepted the instructions it took about five min <g>.
Only complaint I had was I had to retighten things after a few months, the guard rattled a little, but since then its been quiet. Like I said, the guard doesn't attach to the seats, so you can lower the backseats if you have a long load without having to remove the guard. Just watch when you put the seats back up, I've pinched my fingers between the guard and the seats a couple of times. Its also compatible with LATCH child seats, if thats an issue. We have a big dog so the guard was preferable over the net, plus it was cheaper (IIRC) and its a DIY install vs. going to the dealer. I got it from BRI Imports (check the sponsor list) for 20% off Saab list. Hope this helps (a little long)
