Hey Mike,
Can Benny provide a location for the noise?
Is the car manual or auto? Is 25-40 mph always in the same gear & at the same rpm?
Does he hear it at the same rpm (25-40 mph?) if the car's stationary but he's "accelerating" thru it?
Does he only hear it at certain locations? (That is, is he hearing it only when it's being reflected off certain road surfaces or surrounding structures?)
Does he only hear it under certain weather conditions or time-of-day? (Windy? (cross-winds? head-winds?) Cool mornings? Hot afternoons?)
Can it possibly be something other than engine noise? (Wind around trim? Rpm-specific tire noise? ACC fans rotating from forced-thru fresh air?)
These may seem like goofy questions, but I've had cars make weird noises under all of these different conditions. (And I'm sure these aren't the only questions to ask, just the one's I can think of right now.) As he provides more information, you can come up with more questions to narrow down the cause. I understand how he feels, but if NONE of you guys can hear what he's hearing, then he needs to help out a little more. If he doesn't feel it's his "responsibilty" to help you, then there's not much (other than getting him to make a good recording of it) that you can do.
Good luck ...
