The blower motor in my 99 9-5SE went just after it was out of warranty. It had suffered from the occasional leaf getting in and having to sound like a plane taking of until it disintegrated. The blower motor started doing odd things, i.e., Not starting for several seconds when car started, having varying speed (less than the selected speed) and stopping and starting on its own. It finally just failed. The problem was worn out armature. I tore it apart after the new one was installed as an attempt to make a spare. It was not possible for me to rebuild. New one is about $320. It can easily be done yourself by removing cowling below wipers. Then it is a plug and several screws to remove the cover. I believe labor was one hour for the job at Saab.
