I successfully wrestled the turbo out of my 1999 9-5 sedan (73,000 miles), by way of removing the exhaust manifold, although I cannot get the manifold off the last stud closest to the pulley end of the engine. I may risk bolting it back up as is, as the gasket looks OK. I was originally having the turbo rebuilt here in the Wash. DC area but didn't care for their $500 fee. They returned it to me disassembled, but I think I have found a decent exploded parts diagram from the website of an authorized Garrett supplier in Spain. I've taken the leap of faith and got the major rebuild kit for my GT17 turbo from a helpful turbo parts supplier in Calif. Your advice on reinstallation would be very helpful..Thanx for the previuos advice on turbo diagnosis. Hopefully I'll be driving turbo smoke free this weekend, although I assume a bit of time before residual oil burn off throughout the cat and exhaust system....
