I own a Volvo wagon (2001), but do not own a 9-5 wagon (I do, however, have a 9-5 sedan). I looked at both and was convinced that the Volvo is bigger behind the 2nd seat - which correlates with WhatCar. The numbers from Edmunds look like manufacturer's published numbers (so no standard). As for the "Max.." it is because the space for the back seat is larger in the 9-5 than the Volvo, but of course it's only useable if nobody sits there! My 3 kids don't seem to notice the back seat in the 9-5 sedan has more room than the Volvo. Incidentally, I have the non-turbo engine and it has a different character than Saab's LPT (both with 5 speed manual), but I don't think it's much, if any, slower.
