on an '87 SPG. Folks with later 9000s are in the 300,000 mile range with no major engine work. 9-5s and Viggens are getting deep into the 100,000 mile territory without any signs of the engine biting the dust.

Frank Feeman of "Group 6" used to say "the hardest thing you will ever do in your life is wear out one of those little Swedish engines. Frank also recommended using the fuel cut-off as the shift point...

All this is predicated on good, but not necessarily heroic, maintenance. And of course working through the occasional factory hiccup, like soft timing chains, compromise head gaskets, stingy PCV openings that oil up the electronic throttle...
