Passengers in my Aero have picked it out without prompting...LPT is rather fleeting but there. I'm not trying to say it's the #1 noise at any given time, just that it's present.
I modified my '95 900SE (same engine arrangement) to remove most of the noise-reduction plumbing that Saab installed to combat turbo noise. They wouldn't have parts named Turbo Silencer if any given turbo didn't make noise. Their goal is a turbo motor that acts in all ways like an NA engine.
It seems to be strongest while spooling up or holding 1/2-3/4 boost, not so much at WOT. Hills are great for this. A good chunk of the noise comes back thru the intake, not radiating from the unit itself, which would be quite muted on the 9-5 because it snakes down under the front end.
